I thought of multiple ways I could convey the message I’m about to share with you. The only relevant answer that came up was: poetry.
Why? Because allowing the poet within me to be fully expressed is still one of my edges.
And since I am starting to facilitate this Sunday an immersion about unleashing your full expression and making shining your light safer than hiding it (more details about SEEN below), I thought embracing this edge was fitting. So here comes the poet.
There is a moment in every awakening when your soul whispers: I’m not hiding anymore. But for many of us, what follows is not liberation, it’s terror. The body tenses. The heart contracts. The old protections stir. You may think you're afraid of being seen. But in truth what scares you is the pain it reveals. That fear isn't irrational. It's familiar. It's cellular. It's the memory of shame in a childhood classroom. It's the sting of ridicule when you spoke your heart too soon. It's the ghost of an inner voice that says... If they see this part of me, they’ll leave. So you learned to tuck your light behind acceptable language. You learned to share only what would guarantee praise. Instead of your truest expression, you gave the world your performance. At what cost? Your aliveness. Your truth. Your wholeness. I believe this... Repressed truth always becomes suffering. Not because there is something wrong with you. But because you’ve alienated yourself from what’s true. That subtle pain in your chest when you silence your voice... That tension in your jaw when you say what you think they expect instead of what’s real... That collapse in your body when your deepest needs remain unspoken... That’s not weakness. That’s your body’s prayer to find your spine and reclaim your wholeness. Odds are your body has been tired of keeping the score. Instead of dragging ancient pain, it wants to be the sanctuary of your light. To that, the mind might say… Wait until it’s perfect. Build more confidence, you’re not there yet. Wait until you’re certain you won’t be judged. But the body is tired of paying the cost of waiting. It's ready to detox your nervous system of suffering. It’s ready to expand your capacity to hold your truth without collapsing. It’s ready to rewrite the somatic script that says... “If I shine, I’ll be hurt. If I’m real, I’ll be left”. And that’s where freedom begins. Not in forcing yourself to speak louder… But in reconciling with what you once thought you had to hide to feel safer
In the latest episode of ENHEARTENED, I recorded a solo conversation about how to make shining your light safer than hiding it.
We dive into the themes I shared in the poem above and expand on them.
I discuss in there a truth that shifted everything for me:
Most of us don’t need to protect our light.
We need to build the capacity to trust it.
I also discuss the holy defiance necessary to reclaim your fullest expression.
