The subtle art of becoming your own inner authority
Reclaiming your power from your inner critic and the voices of your past
One of the questions I often like to ponder is: how do you know you’ve become the authority in your own life?
What is a surefire way to know that? If your answer is, well, you only listen to yourself and prioritize your own thought processes… then I have another question.
How do you know the way you think is informed by your deepest truth and not only a regurgitation of your conditioning? How do you know your inner dialogue is mostly just yours?
This is not to say that everything about your conditioning is wrong. But sometimes many of the values you internalized growing up are going against what stands true to you today.
Here is a marker that I find invaluable, to know if you are living from an empowered place…
The quality of your relationship with your inner critic is a great reflection of how much you have reclaimed your inner authority.
The quality of your relationship with your inner critic is indeed a mirror.
It shows you how much of your life is being led by your own inner authority, or by the voices of your past.
When the inner critic is loud, it’s rarely your true self speaking.
It’s often the echo of parental voices, old authority figures, or the shame-based conditioning you once had to obey in order to feel safe or not get in “trouble.”
That voice tries to protect you by keeping you small, compliant, and “acceptable.”
But in doing so, it can keep you exiled from your own truth.
Your inner critic often points at values you internalized from perceived authority figures, that you are not honoring in ways you think you should. Or better said, in ways they thought you should.
Even when some of those values still hold meaning, they no longer need to be enforced through shame or self-attack.
So when the critic rages, you know your power and inner authority are not fully embodied.
The question is how do you reclaim that power?
I think working with the inner critic is a cardinal initiation. Why “cardinal?” because we all go through it. It is a rite of passage into becoming your own inner authority.
That requires reconciling with what I like to call your inner divine rebel. The part of you that is no longer OK with outsourcing your authority.
What is an authority anyway? It is the “author” of the rules you live by. The rules that influence the choices you make.
The subtle art of reclaiming your inner authority is not about silencing the critic. It’s about reclaiming the power it still has over you. It’s about transforming it.
It’s about becoming the parent you once needed, the compassionate guide you may never have had.
When you stand in your inner authority, you no longer abandon yourself to fit in.
You no longer outsource your worth to the judgments of others. You begin to lead your life from a place of self-belonging, compassion, and empowered truth.
This is the shift that liberates you.
In my upcoming book, Scars of Gold, I explore this transformation in greater depth. How to meet the inner critic as a doorway, not an enemy, and how to step fully into the sovereignty of your own voice.
And tomorrow, I’ll be guiding a live workshop on not just dethroning the inner critic, but restoring your inner Self in position of power.
Together, we’ll resolve parental shadows, quiet the inherited voices, and practice reclaiming the authority that is yours to hold.
This is part 2 of a series of bonuses you get when you preorder my book here and register your order: www.scarsofgold.com. And I can’t wait to journey with you live.
This workshop is just the beginning. It’s a first taste of the kind of deep self-liberation work we explore inside The Embodied Light Project, my membership community. You can check it out HERE.
