Embracing your baptism by fire

Reaching towards your gifts, your talents and your brightness is a spiritual pilgrimage of its own. If you’ve ever done any kind of spiritual pilgrimage that is intensive (a vision quest would be a great example), you might know that at some point of the journey, you get to face the shadow.

There are moments where you might even question why you started the journey to begin with. It’s as if a part of you is checking to see if you’ve lost your mind. Does that sound any familiar?

I’m inviting you to think about it this way…

If you pray to embrace more of your brightness, do not be surprised if the answer to that prayer is an invitation from your shadow to face the aspects of you that vibrate in opposition to what you desire.

Do not be surprised if the answer is to first look at the internalized fears that you have about shining bright. Do not be surprised if at first it is the shadow that answers the call.

Deep down we have an innate awareness of this. It is something we sense inherently. This is one of the reasons why most people will go through lifetimes and never claim the courage to get intimate with their light.

In order to embrace your brightness, your talents and your gifts, you will have to build the emotional stamina to stand in the presence of their vibrational polar opposite without shutting down your heart. These are sometimes fears, emotional conflicts and wounds from the past. You will have to face the dark thought forms you have unconsciously associated with shining bright.

If you chase your light, you will be chased by your shadow.

When your shadow knocks on your door

All the survival archetypes that show up when you get closer to expressing your brightness, are the manifestation of shadow material that needs to be illuminated so that you can embrace the liberation you crave. Your shadow and light are in an eternal cooperative dance. One that you get to become skillful at dancing.

You inner saboteur, your imposter, the critic within and any other survival archetypes that show up when you reach for your brightness, as disruptive as they may look, are your shadow self inviting you to reclaim the spiritual real estate you will need to express your uniqueness and authenticity.

As I always like to say, they all carry a higher purpose — these survival archetypes. One that is benevolent even when it doesn’t appear to be that way.

Just to give you an example, an aspect of the higher purpose available to you when you dethrone your inner critic, is to dissolve your fear of alienation. Doing that allows you to more fully individuate and to get to a point where you no longer take other people’s criticism of your light personally.

How liberating is that? I mean really… What difference would this make in the way you show up in all the areas of your life?

Every single survival archetype that seems to be hindering your brightness, is an intuitive invitation in disguise to go through a purification process so that you can embrace your gifts.

That process is what I call your baptism by fire. That fire is not meant to burn you. Not the ‘real’ you. It is meant to burn the layers of falsehood you’ve been conditioned to embrace as your own. That inner fire burns your attachment to what you’re not. There are some sacred seeds that need fire to germinate. Your light is one of them.
